How does California’s fair housing law protect tenants?
California’s Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA) prohibits discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, and other protected categories. Landlords cannot refuse to rent, set different terms, or harass tenants based on these characteristics. The law ensures equal housing opportunities and provides mechanisms for tenants to file complaints if they believe their rights have been violated.
